The definition of paraphilia is “a condition characterized by abnormal sexual desires, typically involving extreme or dangerous activities.”, which can inclde pedophilia.

It has recieved 4 censures from fediseer due to the content contained on that instance

Not a good look for Lemmy to be promoting any instance like that.

        The term is real, it’s even used in scientific literature. The term possibly even predates 4chan, or maybe it’s just a success on 4chan’s part, successfully laundering a term into scientific discourse? It’s hard to find too much solid evidence on the origin of the term. 4chan did seriously signal boost it with the whole “MAP Pride” thing though.

            Anti-unnecessary terms. Changing “child porn” (or CP) to “CSAM” is a ridiculous, confusing, and unnecessary thing. And it takes effort away from meaningful action.

              While the term child pornography is still widely used by the public, it’s more accurate to call it what it is: evidence of child sexual abuse. That’s why RAINN and others have stopped using the term child pornography and switched to referring to it as CSAM — child sexual abuse materials.

              While some of the pornography online depicts adults who have consented to be filmed, that’s never the case when the images depict children. Just as kids can’t legally consent to sex, they can’t consent to having images of their abuse recorded and distributed. Every explicit photo or video of a kid is actually evidence that the child has been a victim of sexual abuse.

                If you can’t understand the difference between “porn” and “child porn”, that’s a problem that can’t be fixed by calling it CSAM. Because the problem is you’re either a pedophile or an idiot.

                Some ladder climbing asshole got published or tenured or promoted or something for inventing a new bullshit term. That’s the only reason it exists.

      Its some bullshit cooked up by internet trolls, and accepted and used by right wing propagandists, as the latest thing to use to try and paint gay people as pedophiles.

      When, historically, we know the actual pedophiles are the ones falsely claiming gays are the danger to children.

      To be fair, it is not politically correct language, actually it’s language that’s commonly frowned upon in all circles. But basically as long as the LGBT rights movements have existed with any level of mainstream visibility in America, there have been organizations like NAMBLA and the like that have been trying to piggyback off of them…

      And it pretty much ends the same way, with the pedophiles being shown the door.

      Incidentally this is what the early South Park episode about the National Association of Marlon Brando Look Alikes getting mad at NAMBLA (the irl NAtional Man Boy Love Association) for stealing their acronym is poking fun at.
