Alt-history enthusiasts for better or worse don’t often put that much research into their projects, so something that might seem like an egregious misunderstanding to someone more knowledgeable in the subject might sound reasonable to them, especially if they just cobbled together their vague understanding of these groups.
Perhaps but that really is an insane thing to try and put together. You’d think that if you were into alt-history that you could at least have a basic understanding of it at an elementary level but alas, those who speak on a matter the most likely know nothing about it.
