I’ve been using Opera for a few years now, ever since my brother recommended it to me, and I’ve been enjoying its features, UI and everything. However, I (surprisingly to me) haven’t noticed many people mentioning it. Also, when I was on Reddit and mentioned that I use it I got downvoted which left me somewhat confused haha.

So I’m wondering if there’s anything wrong with it and/or if I should give another browser a go (I noticed Firefox is mentioned a ton on here)

Nothing is wrong with it, people just tend to downvote if they don’t agree with someone’s choices.

I personally use Firefox, but only because I don’t like chromium based web engines

I was an Opera user for years, but when all the browsers started moving to Chromium (including Opera) like they forgot what a bad time it was with the IE monopoly, I went to Firefox and never use Chromium browsers if I can help it.

Also I was starting to become aware of the privacy aspects and moving away from Google, et al. Opera sold their browser division to some Chinese companies, which for a closed-source product means as far as privacy is concerned, you can’t trust it anymore.

Especially with the crap that Google is trying to implement in the near future with DRMs preventing ad blockers

Try Vivaldi. It’s from the original opera people and has many more features. Iirc couple years ago opera was sold to some Chinese company and stopped using its own engine which caused its popularity to decline. It’s not that it’s a bad browser, but aside from the performance limiter function they keep advertising for gx, it’s pretty much obsoleted by Vivaldi imo.

Give firefox a go as well. Vivaldi has lots of cool features, but if you don’t really use them switching to Firefox is a better choice simply because it’s not a chromium based browser.

Nah, it’s all right. I like Opera. But I also like Firefox, edge and iOS Safari (I absolutely hate Safari on MacOS).

Most of the browsers run smooth and slight differences in speed are rather unnoticeable for the normal everyday user. So you should not rly care about the opinions of others. Use what you like best.
