  • I would let him have the same stuff as his classmates

By the way, this one really stings. Sucks to not be able to participate with friends using their phones. Sucks even more to have to borrow it because you need to participate in a class activity that requires it or have to do something urgently and no way to use a computer.

  • I’m not gonna be a Luddite and say smart phone bad. However, you seem concerned so I’d recommend locking it down as much as possible if you want to keep them off stuff like TikTok or Xitter.

As an anecdote, having a smart phone made school much more tolerable since it let me watch TV during lunch, browse memes when waiting in awfully long lines daily, and being able to listen to music when allowed was awesome. They’ll definitely be grateful for one, just gotta make sure it’s not abused.

Also, they’re going to need to be acquainted with the little computer in their pocket eventually. Good to do it before they reach the rebellious phase.

  • I feel like I became cognizant of this when I tried customizing my GTA Online character in something that wasn’t a nice suit (street wear). After scroling through so much cotton billboard it made get how tacky and humiliating it is. Turned out to be much harder in real life to find non-branded shirts with cool designs, such utter bullshit.

  • I would definitely say so. Personally, I’d just not have one. Let them face the consequences of lack of sleep so they know how important it is. I think it’s weird that sleep schedules are never emphasized to teenagers. Probably a lot less sleep deprived teens if they were encouraged to get all the fun done before night hits and then easing into sleepy time.

But not having a set time could also backfire and they end up like I did with only sleeping like 4 hours but getting naps in whenever possible at school. Always surprises me how good the human body is at adapting.
