This is going to require good branding and simplified explanations.
What we have going for us is that basically everyone agrees that Congress isn’t functional.

You need a small list of very focused demands. Occupy Wall Street and BLM failed because they started tacking on too many things.
Here are demands that will fix the core issues at the federal level:
These five items must be implemented if our democracy is to survive. Everything else can be handled after.
I tried to look up how much power these self driving systems are pulling, but it looks like that will require a deeper dive. The only results I got from a quick search were from 2017-2018, and the systems were pulling around 2 kW. I’m sure that’s come down in the 7-8 years since, but I don’t know how much.
I think you’re right on the lawsuit/upgrade cost. They are on the hook to supply Full Self Driving to all the buyers who bought the option. It’s clear they’re not going to be able to provide it. It looks like there are several class-action lawsuits currently underway.
The power draw to process the LIDAR data is negligible compared to the energy used to move the car. 250-300 Watt hours per mile is what it takes to move an electric sedan on average. You might lose a mile of range over an hour of driving, and that’s if you add the LIDAR system without reducing the optical processing load.
LIDAR sensor housing can be made aerodynamic.
While it’s true that LIDAR was more expensive when they started work on self-driving, it doesn’t make sense for them to continue down this path now. It’s all sunk cost fallacy and pride at this point.
Yes, you can run it locally. I just got done setting up a version to run on my local machine, and I’m running a single 3090.
“Lemmy is reddit methadone.” Is my go-to answer.
I’m not trying to start a fight here.
Your comments come off as someone who is naive to how bad many families are to the point of having a disneyfied view of family.
I’m really glad your personal experience has been great, but please know that is not as common as you think.
Even crazier fact: it’s not just capillary action drawing water up trees. Trees are actually able to create negative pressure: https://www.science4all.org/article/the-amazing-physics-of-water-in-trees/
Trustpilot tries to weed out fake reviews. A huge influx of reviews all at once looks like fake reviews. And, to be fair, I imagine a chunk of those reviews are “fake” in that the reviewers never used the app. It’s easier for Trustpilot to cut off new reviews for the time being than to deal with evaluating all these new reviews.
Worse. It was worse than my expectations.
Don’t you yar me
Milhouse is not a meme.
I mean, that would have been true up until very recently in history.
The best time to watch Primer is immediately after watching Primer.
There are two separate cultures around asking for favors like this.
In one, a person can ask for anything without being considered rude, but they are expected to not react negatively to being told ‘no’.
In the other, it is expected that you only ask for something if you’re sure the answer will be yes. Asking for something to which you expect a rejection is rude in this culture. Also people tend to react negatively to being told ‘no’, as they were fully expecting a ‘yes’.
I grew up in the latter system, as it is what most of the western world uses. It requires far more social aptitude and ability to pick up on queues. It causes a ton of problems (especially with dating) and is a nightmare for anyone on the autism spectrum.
This is a long way of saying: be careful of who you ask for random favors from. In a customer role it’s fine, but it may not go well with friends/family.
I’m… concerned they are prediabetic.
That’s not how metabolism works. You’d need to get into a starvation state before the number of calories getting burned changes significantly - and that takes a long time.
If you actually need constant snacks throughout the day, you should get checked for diabetes.
Sure, but the company fronted the millions of dollars required to develop the technology. The investment needs to come from somewhere.
That doesn’t have to be a private company, though. We need public funding that retains the patent rights, if not just to make the invention free from licensing costs to manufacture.
The insane thing about our current system is that we do have public funding, but private companies wind up with the patent anyway
…For the milkshake, right?
