Not trying to get into an in-depth discussion (because I know nothing) but from the outside looking in, going tit for tat and hoping the next guy’s better (or that Trump doesn’t make himself President for life) doesn’t seem like a good long term strategy. Tariffs may be necessary (convo above) but ultimately are going to hurt the people of the issuing country the most and at a time when most are struggling already.

Trump’s not the US and people in the US definitely shouldn’t get punished for his crap (unless they actively voted red, abstaining…sucks but I get it tbh), but he’s just proved he’s willing to start a trade war with friendly nations and the US has proved it’s willing to hand the country over to someone like that. Twice. Trying to find better firends (in terms of trade deals and whatnot) seems like the smart move here. Every other nation having to jump through hoops any time this guy wants to earn brownie points with his supporters doesn’t seem like a good foundation for a trade agreement to me.

That’s fair. If someone punches you, you punch back. You don’t get beaten up in the moment in hopes that you get to jump them a week from now. The “both” option suggested below may be better but that still means it’s regular everyday people getting fucked over with higher prices in CA over something they had nothing to do with (I can still sympathize with the US but one can also argue the US voted him in, Canada did not).

Dunno enough to know how well it’d work but I read a comment here the other day saying Canada and Mexico shouldn’t retaliate with tariffs but instead opt out of their side of UMCA and just not uphold US IP laws. They could individually or together invest heavily into forming companies that provide cheaper alternatives to whatever crap US companies pull for recurring revenue. Stuff like legally mandating that phones have a local-made app store pre-installed, subsidizing or outright investing in really well made and well maintained jailbreaks, third party repairs, and third party spare parts for stuff like John Deere products, Apple produccts, Tesla products…pretty much eat the tariffs on exports to the US, don’t retaliate with own tariffs so prices locally don’t go up, but hurt US profits everywhere else by becoming a provider of cheaper but still reliable (probably more reliable tbh) alternatives to anything US.

100% this. Played quite a bit of hitman on the high seas version. One day I decided I was gonna buy it on the next sale (around the time freelancer mode came out since I figured I enjoy it enough and updates would be easier). Oh boy! Their pricing model is garbage and the “sale” makes it seem way cheaper than it actually is if you want the whole game. Gave up on buying after that.

No longer stuck but Iron Monkey took about 2 months on/off until I got the whole thing. I try to seed where I can but internet isn’t the best and sometimes there just isn’t a lot of demand. That one’s at 0.07 right now because not a lot of people downloading

I really don’t wanna defend Linus here buuuut…

I can see someone who’s switching over from Windows making the same mistake, especially if they’re good with Windows but new to Linux. You get so conditioned constantly telling Windows to take off the fucking training wheels and ignoring all its bullshit warnings that I can see you making the same assumptions on your first(ish) time using Linux. Plus you don’t expect something as benign as installing Steam to destroy your desktop manager.

His biggest criticism if I remember correctly was also that widespread adoption won’t be feasible until <whatever distro> is idiot proof and I agree. Ease of use is there these days but the things that make Linux so powerful can also be the things your average Windows user (deletes desktop shortcuts by accident and panics thinking they uninstalled their apps level of technical) can use to break their install, especially if they blindly follow one of the many (sometimes out of date) tutorials out there that tell you to run some random commands in the terminal.

With that said, it’s still his mistake. He should’ve read the damn instructions, and owned up to it more. He’s technical enough to know you can’t go in assuming you know how to use something you’re new to.

Obligatory I fucking love Linux and hope it becomes the default someday not just because fuck Windows and fuck Microsoft, but because it’s genuinely amazing in its own right.

I’m down to listen to their response myself but as someone who tried really hard to explain away their last dumb controversy only to be proven wrong multiple times, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just pure negligence. It’s so funny you mentioned it because I was actually worried about that too. Achievement popups in a game like this (even on steam tbh) can really take you out of it. And AW2 has qute a few too sheesh. Not sure if steam offline mode still has em. Good to know I’m not insane though haha

Complete and utter trash really. Just a horrible experience all round. I’ve used Epic before and I thought offline was a thing. After I was finally able to login, you can imagine my surprise when I learned that I can NEVER play offline. Logged in correctly, ran the game online fine, closed off everything, unplugged ethernet and tried to play - got hit with that “this game requires an internet connection” dialog.

I was willing to look past an outage since I figured maybe it’s because it was the second or third time launching it and it needed keys or whatever, but online only? We get internet and power issues like crazy here, that’s an actual deal breaker.

Genuinely didn’t wanna but I ended up refunding it. Remedy, if you’re seeing this, hmu when it’s on steam and I can actually play offline. Paid for it once, willing to again :)

It’s a damn shame it was overshadowed by BG3. Feels like an lesser version of the Titanfall 2 situation. Bought it on discount the other day because I want them to make money from it.

With that said, it’s always insane to me how 99% of the time, paying for a game is a worse experience than pirating it. I bought a single player game that I now cannot play because epic’s servers are down and it’s not letting me use offline mode because I tried to login when it prompted. Can’t even run the exe because the launcher force closes the game. Why tf is this offline game being treated like an always online game?! At least Steam lets you login offline if it knows your credentials from before. I’m actually considering refunding because I can’t guarantee I’ll be online the next time it logs me out.

Honestly with the tech where it is today, there’s really no downsides to wireless with a dongle except maybe price at certain brackets. Most modern wireless gaming mice are as good if not better than their wired counterparts. If you don’t care about sensor performance or polling rate, you can still get a cheapo wireless mouse that performs about as well as the cheapo wired mouse you were gonna get anyway with the added convenience of no cables.

1 month ago, I know, sorry. I ended up upgrading and AW2 was like 70% of the reason. Can’t do RT and still hit 60 but even without it, what an incredible looking game, and that’s only the beginning. I don’t think I’ve ever played anything like this. It’s your basic (albeit bery solid) survival horror sure but the tone is PITCH FUCKING PERFECT and the story’s interesting in a way very few are. I’m only a few chapters in but it feels like playing through a novel more than a game.

I’m on the non-epic PC version right now (shhh) but I’m 100% buying it once I get the disposable income because even though I hate Epic, god damn Remedy deserves to make money off this.
